Mickey & Poppy from This Is Rubbish

The Jolly RogersComment

Mickey & Poppy are from a company called This Is Rubbish. They are amazing people who really care about saving food form being wasted. They showed us pictures of loads and loads of fruit and veg that supermarkets throw away, just because they don't look perfect. Mickey says that the UK would save 300,000 tones of food every year if the government would stop supermarkets from wasting food like that.

We talked about how families can save food from being wasted in our own homes too. Mickey and Poppy gave us some banana muffins made from brown bananas that were going to be thrown away. Families could save loads of money if we try to stop wasting so much food. Here are the slogans we came up with to help people remember.

·         Grow more, shut the door. No more waste. It should be the case.

·         Freeze it, don’t lose it

·         Waste what? Want what?

Ben Sellers

Today we saw an awesome person called Ben. Ben is a music man and he makes music on ipads. It is wicked! :-)

Ben played a game with us to get us in the right rhythm for making music. After the game he gave us 30 minutes to make a beat on the ipads. He gave us really cool headphones to use too. After that we played our tunes to the rest of the group. I think mine was the best. You can listen in the video.

Today we saw Josh-1 and Josh-2. They came and tell us about what they were doing to show kids that they can be heroes.

When they wher kids Josh-1 was into super heroes but Josh-2 was in to skate boarding and playing the electric guitar. When they got older Josh 2 used his music to inspire Josh-1 to become a real hero.

Mussel Men

Today we met Sean and Kirsty, they are the owners of a restaurant called Mussel Man. Mussel meaning seafood, not “I have big muscles.” They sell crab, squid, mussels, oysters and prawns. It sounds delicious.

Today we saw Anna who is an actor that does not work with scripts and makes up the story as she goes along. It is called devised theatre.

We played a game to make up a story. Going round in a circle everyone had to add two words. The story we made was really funny.

Anna works for Hackney Shed where kids get to do loads of devised theatre.

Today we met Tom who makes wildlife documentaries. He told us about where he has been and what he has seen.  He also showed us a huge sperm whale's tooth and Siberian tiger's tooth. His favourite animals are giraffe they are so friendly and have huge tongues.

The scariest thing that ever happened to him is when an elephant charged at him and he did not run.
